Vaccines Save Lives
Vaccines reduce risks of getting a disease by working with your body's natural defenses to build protection.
Immunization Schedule
In Punjab, the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) provides free "hifazati teeke" (protective injections) to protect infants from 12 life-threatening diseases. These include tuberculosis, polio, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, hepatitis B, Hib, pneumonia, diarrhea (rotavirus), measles, rubella, and typhoid.

Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. It is primarily caused by persistent infection with certain high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV), a common virus transmitted through sexual contact.
Cervical Cancer Vaccine
The HPV vaccine (such as Gardasil 9) is a highly effective, safe injection that prevents infection from high-risk HPV strains responsible for over 75% of cervical cancers. It is recommended for children aged 11–12, but can be given from age 9 up to 45, ideally before sexual activity. Common side effects include pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site, fever, and headache.
